Class Discussions

Because this is a distance-education course, your attendance is based on your online activity and participation. The instructor and participants will "meet" on the Internet using the Discussion Forums on the OSU S.A.G.E. website ( weekly.  All participants, including those auditing the course, will be expected to join the class for discussions one to two times per week according to the designated time frames indicated by the instructor on the course calendar. 

Course Communications

The following are expectations for how to communicate as a class. Above all, please remember to be respectful and thoughtful.

  • Writing Style: While there is no need to participate in class discussions as if you were writing a research paper, you should remember to write using good grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Tone and Civility: All posts are expected to be part of a supportive learning community where everyone feels safe and can disagree amicably.
  • Citing Your Sources: When we have academic discussions, please cite your sources to back up what you say. For textbooks or other course materials, list at least the title and page numbers. For online sources, include a link. If you need assistance with citations, please contact the office at
  • Backing Up Your Work: To avoid losing your work due to connectivity or power issues, consider composing your posts in a word processor where they can be saved.  Saved posts can then be copied into the OSU S.A.G.E. discussion textbox.
